Today, celebrated blues & rock musician Devon Allman announces his casting in AMC‘s NASCAR drama series Thunder Road. Created by John Fusco (Young Guns, The Highwaymen), the series will star Allman opposite Dennis Quaid, Chase Stokes, Michael Rooker, Matt Barr, Maggie Grace and West Duchovny and is set to begin production this summer and will debut on AMC and AMC+ in 2027.
Thunder Road is the multi-generational saga of the fictional Whitlock family whose legacy in stock car racing is as deep as the family’s ties to the Southern hill country roots that shaped them.
Devon Allman joins Thunder Road as ‘Jimmy Fuchs,’ a silver-tongued Southern operator whose easy charm and “sportsman’s club” credentials barely conceal the danger underneath.
Quaid stars as racing legend Duane Whitlock, aka The Wrecking Ball, a towering figure who built a racing empire from a legacy of moonshine runs and dirt tracks and refuses to let it die. With ruthless competitors who will stop at nothing to dethrone and destroy them, the Whitlocks are a blue-collar dynasty at the edge of extinction – and the old king is fighting to hold onto the crown.
“Hot damn! Being cast in AMC’s Thunder Road is such a thrill,” shared Allman with Deadline. “I’m excited to act alongside this incredible cast and bring the character of Jimmy Fuchs to life. He’s quite an ornery cuss, and I am right here for every bit of it.”

Fusco is set to executive produce alongside showrunner Taylor Elmore, Cliff Roberts with Syndicate Entertainment, Mark L. Smith, and NASCAR Studio’s Tim Clark and John Dahl. Gladys Cheng serves as producer. The show is produced in association with NASCAR.
Whether through his work in the Allman Betts Band (his project with Duane Betts, son of Dickey Betts), their Allman Betts Family Revival tour, or his own solo career (as the Devon Allman Project), Devon is not just part of one of the biggest legacies in musical history but he has fully created his own path of accomplishments, helping to redefine guitar-driven southern rock.
Devon and Duane recently performed at the NYC premiere of the new documentary celebrating the life and legacy of his father, Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul , while Devon also continues his work as a road-tested performer this summer via several musical iterations including the aforementioned Devon Allman Project.
